Amino acids

Beta-Alanine — timing, dose & interactions

Amino acid that raises muscle carnosine, a buffer against acid build-up. Per the ISSN position stand, 4–6 g/day for at least 2–4 weeks improves performance in intense efforts lasting 1–4 minutes. The only reported side effect is harmless tingling (paresthesia).

Timing

When to take it

Split into doses of about 1.6 g with meals to limit tingling. It works by building up muscle carnosine over weeks, so workout timing matters little.

Should Beta-Alanine be taken with food?
