Hydroxytyrosol — timing, dose & interactions
The main polyphenol of extra-virgin olive oil. The EU accepts that olive polyphenols (5 mg of hydroxytyrosol and related compounds a day, from olive oil) help protect blood lipids from oxidation. In a 16-week randomized trial in adults with prediabetes, 15 mg/day lowered oxidized LDL and markers of oxidative damage.
Also known as: Olive polyphenols, Olive extract

Medications & health conditions
Antioxidants may interfere with cancer treatment. Some chemotherapy and radiation work partly through oxidative damage; high-dose antioxidants could reduce their effect. Discuss every supplement with your oncology team.
