Alpha-Lipoic Acid + Biotin

Can you take Alpha-Lipoic Acid and Biotin together?

NoteAnimal / lab only

Yes — but long-term high-dose ALA may slightly lower biotin.

What to do. No action needed at normal doses. Consider a B-complex if you take high-dose ALA long term.

Mechanism

Lipoic acid shares biotin's transporter

Lipoic acid and biotin are both taken up by the sodium-dependent multivitamin transporter (SMVT). In animals, very high lipoic acid reduced biotin-dependent enzyme activity.

Evidence: Animal / lab only — Evidence limited to animal or cell studies.
