Vitamin A + Vitamin D3

Can you take Vitamin A and Vitamin D3 together?

NoteMechanism-based

Yes at normal doses; avoid high-dose retinol.

What to do. Keep preformed vitamin A under the 3,000 mcg upper limit.

Dose matters. Your vitamin A dose is at or above the upper limit.

Mechanism

High-dose vitamin A may blunt vitamin D

Retinoic acid and vitamin D share a nuclear-receptor partner (RXR). Very high retinol intakes are associated with lower bone density and may counteract some vitamin D effects; human data are mixed.

Evidence: Mechanism-based — Plausible biological mechanism with little direct human outcome data.
