Niacin (Nicotinic Acid) + Nicotinamide Riboside (NR)
Can you take Niacin (Nicotinic Acid) and Nicotinamide Riboside (NR) together?
No need to take both for NAD⁺ — they feed the same pool, and niacin causes flushing that NR doesn't.
What to do. Pick one for NAD⁺ support. NR has more human data for that purpose and doesn't flush.
Mechanism
Two routes to NAD⁺
Nicotinic acid and nicotinamide riboside are both converted to NAD⁺ through different pathways. No study shows combining them adds benefit.
Evidence: Mechanism-based — Plausible biological mechanism with little direct human outcome data.

Buying guide
What to look for on the label
Niacin (Nicotinic Acid)
- Immediate-release nicotinic acid (flushes, but is gentler on the liver than extended-release)
- Nicotinamide doesn't flush, but doesn't improve cholesterol either
Nicotinamide Riboside (NR)
- Nicotinamide riboside chloride (Niagen®)
